During the fall and winter months, my hands get extra dry! I feel like I apply a moisturizer constantly, and still there is no end in my dry skin future! However, I have to admit that I am always busy… I am working from home, my boys are distance learning now, projects, endless spontaneous activities and impulses of creativity, my hands are always in need of rescuing!
I knew it was time that I needed more than just the daily severe hand moisturizer… SQUIRREL!
A few years ago when really started getting interested in DIY projects and gifts, I started making sugar scrubs. I found them simple and enjoyable to make. It left my hands feeling like they just enjoyed a long day at the spa. They are silky, smooth and soft to the touch. The coconut oil feels like it leaves layer of protection allowing my hands to retain the moisture and begin a healing process! I have friends that used this as a full body scrub as well, but I have a Coffee & Coconut Oil Shower Scrubs recipe that is amazing!
I loved the sugar scrub so much, that I started making them for my friends and family! Not to mention that they are so fun to give as gifts for the holidays!
This sugar scrub is made with every day ingredients, its quick and easy to make. I like to keep a container by my kitchen sink and in each bathroom so its readily available when I need it the most!
Ingredients:
- 1 C Granulated Sugar
- 1 C Coconut Oil
- Essential Oil (Your choice- I prefer Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon etc..)
- 5 Vitamin E tablets (Optional- Approx. 10 drops)
- Food coloring (Optional- 2 drops)

Step 1:
In a mixing bowl, add the sugar, coconut oil, 10 drops essential oil, vitamin E oil from the tablets (using a scissor to cut them open and squeeze into the mixture) and coloring if desired. (I made two batches; Peppermint and Lavender).
(** You only need a drop or two of coloring, you do not want to stain skin or container, just a hint of color**). Mix all ingredients until you have one smooth mixture.

Step 2:
Now that your sugar scrub is mixed and ready, you can dispense it into containers of your choice. I used 2 rounded tablespoons per container and a single batch will yeild approx. 8 x 2 oz containers.

Now you are ready to gift, decorate and brand as you would like!

Tips and Tricks:
- You can use mason jars, if you would like to have larger containers.
- I used Avery permanent printable labels and created branding labels for my scrubs. I love how much they add to the simple container. You can be creative and create your own label, if you check out Pinterest, there are dozens of printable labels as well.
- Decorate these beauties with cotton string and add a tag for fun gifting.
- I purchased my 2 oz container from the local Dollar Tree. They were 10x 2 oz containers per item. I have used them for a few years and they work really well and the lids do not pop off.
- If your coconut oil is hard, do not heat it to a liquid before you add it to the sugar because it may start to dissolve.
Cheers!
